With the passing years, we now contemplate and ponder upon the gains and losses we've experienced throughout our lives :: Wether or not we've grown up to maturity :: Whether we are still the same selves, changed to the better or the worse :: For every single year passed through our lives, there lies another year in front of us - yet to be unfold - yet to be explored - yet to be designed :: We are the ones to guide the path of our future - be it the colour of whites or blacks or even greys ::

I therefore sincerely wishing all of you the VERY BEST in conjunction with this NEW FUTURE & NEW YEAR :: Colour it well - it's the colour of your life you are painting here!!

The History Of Hijri Calendar

The Islamic Calendar, which is based purely on lunar cycles, was first introduced by Umar ibn Al-KHattab r.a. :: It was an attempt to rationalize the various conflicting dating systems used during his time :: Umar consulted his advisors on the starting date of the new Muslim chronology :: It was decided that the most appropriate reference point was the Hijrah ::

The actual starting date for the Calendar was chosen to be the first day of the first month of the year of the Hijrah (1 Muharram) :: The Hijrah, which chronicles the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Makkah to Madinah, is the central historical event for Islam :: It led to the foundation of the first Muslim city-state, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah ::

Pondering :: Islamic Era did not start with the victories of Islamic wars, birth or death of the prophet (PBUH), nor with the Revelation :: It starts with Hijra, the sacrifice for the cause of Truth and for the preservation of the Revelation ::


Holy Qur'an Quotations (By A. Yusuf Ali):

They ask thee
the New Moons
Say: They are but signs
To mark fixed periods of time
In (the affairs of) men
And for Pilgrimage. (II:189)

The number of months
In the sight of Allah
Is twelve (in a year)
So ordained by Him
The day He created
The heavens and the earth;
Of them four are sacred;
That is the straight usage
So wrong not yourselves
Therein, and fight the Pagans. (IX: 36)

Verily the transposing
(Of a prohibited month)
Is an addition to Unbelief:
The Unbelievers are led
To wrong thereby: for they make
it lawful one year,
And forbidden another year,
Of months forbidden by Allah
And make such forbidden ones
Lawful. The evil of their course
Seems pleasing to them.
But Allah guideth not
Those who reject Faith. (IX: 37)
